‘Tis The Season To Get Wasted

With the holiday season approaching quickly, People are having more and more fun. And by having fun, I mean getting wasted. We all know Heineken for their delicious beer, and their successful advertising campaigns. Playing on man’s supposed love of beer over women among others. Their latest advertising effort consists of a viral website called Knowthesigns.com . The website is an ingenious game of sorts, You are placed behind the monitor of a surveillance camera in a bar, and you are tasked to find and click on the various people in the bar who might endanger the fun of the evening, or “problem drinkers” as they call them. These range from the overly grabby “groper” and the aggressive “Fighter” for men, to the “flirt” and “crier” for women, you can probably guess what those two do based on their names. It seems to me this could be a number of things. It doesn’t quite directly promote the beer itself. I mean sure it’s in a bar and they’re drinking beer…But the game doesn’t exploit it quite as much as it exploits the various stereotypes of people in bars. I think it’s strange they would base their advertising on Stereotypes of people in bars. People might get offended. Just like they did when PepsiCo’s  released that “Amp up before you score” app for the Iphone. The app that told young men all about the various predetermined girl types and gave lines on how to “score” with these girls. Or these people might be a back-up cast for some sitcom, They could be the support cast for Cougar Town for all we know. They just don’t seem to be of the right age yet.
